Hi Laura,
I just finished reading your novel Seabiscuit: An American Legend
I generally don't bother with things like this but I wanted to let you know (I hope you read this) that Seabiscuit was the best book I've read in a very long time and I read a fair amount. ;) Your writing style is superb and unique. I found your skills with description and back story to be unparalleled. This novel will certainly become a classic, it is an absolutely extrordinary work. Excellent writing. Thank you!!!

Wonderful and awsome book. I had seen the movie years ago it was great. Recently someone loaned me the book and it is certainly worth reading. Thanks for all the research you did.

Big Brown wins Haskell: Less winstrol and bute, less need for furosemide, better balanced electrolytes, faster Big Brown.
More blood checks in horse racing might help the situation a little, although the chemists never stop tinkering (THG,the Clear).
See the NY Times article--Google About Those Steroids and Big Brown
Take care, Laura!

Laura,
I, too, have suffered from a chronic illness, similar to CFS, since 1994. I believe I am finally getting well, and I give credit to two books by Eckhart Tolle, in which he describes the "pain-body." So long as I see all of my symptoms, physical and emotional, as emanating from the pain-body and surrender to them, rather than resist or try to change them, I quit having relapses and see small gains each day. Maybe you will find his teaching of benefit also.

Laura, Anyone who has ever loved a special horse (as I have) will cherish the story of Seabiscuit forever. Thank you for writing this book. It has made me see even deeper into what horses really bring to our lives and what we can bring to theirs.

I educate the public about horses and their care. What impressed me was that the book was about SB, yet his face was absent. SB did all of the work. I realize that he was not known to be a pretty horse (by our standards) but I can't imagine that aesthetics had a role in choosing this cover. I will be using this in my clinics, as an example for how little credit horses are given, though they do so much for us. Would like to reply so that my students can understand photo decision. Thankyou

I watch Seabiscuit annually - at least - and read the book probably as often and they are both well fused in my mind. I am still confused, however, as to how Seabiscuit's name came about...how is it a synonym of Hard Tack? I keep hoping there is a poetic answer to this! Thanks for a heart-warmikng and refreshing as well as informative story!

Your book is fantastic. I wish I had read it before seeing the movie. It is written with such precision and understanding. I am retired now, and your book has made my time more enjoyable. Thanks for writing it.

I hate horse racing (think Barbaro and Eight Belles) but this book is on my all-time favorites list. I don't think anyone else could have written it and all these wonderful stories would faded away and been forgotten. The movie always brings tears to my eyes it is so inspiring, quite an accomplishment in today's Hollywood.
Thank you for keeping the legend alive for a new generation.

While researching a way to correspond with you(see earlier post), I read your interview about CFS with Beliefnet.I had no idea - Was already a fan of your writing, and now humbled and inspired by your incredible story and attitude. I can't get over what you have achieved. I hope this finds you well, and would still love to use some passages from Seabiscuit in my Teddy tribute for Karen and David O'Conner. With great respect, Michael

Hi Laura ( or whomever may actually view this),
I am the Creative Director of Fluid Images film and video, and actually worked on the film Seabiscuit. The USEF is one of our clients, and through them have gotten to know Karen and David O'Conner. The recent tragic death of Karen's Olympic bound over achieving pony may be familiar to you. Teddy's story reminded me of Seabiscuit. I have some beautiful footage of Karen and Teddy, and am putting together a tribute of sorts. Would like to use exerpts

7/10/08 I just finished reading "Seabiscuit." As like millions, I couldn't put it down. I have a four year old daughter. I would love to see a short early reading book put out on this story that I could read to her (or she could read herself) much like the Scholastic school books or the "I can read" books. I'm sure it would be a hot seller for the toddler set! Thank you for such a terrific, uplifting story. Juliet Kral

Hi Laura,
I'm 16 and I have CFS.I read an article about you and I was very moved. I'm sure you already know about this, but in case you don't, you should check out the treatment centre for CFS. The Doctor is amazing. His treatment really works, because he himself had CFS at one point. They are slowly giving me my life back.
Good Luck

Seabiscuit is a wonderful book! I'd seen the movie, not knowing about your book. The movie was good but your book is better: more detailed, richer characterizations. I hope you have an enjoyable, successful career and are able to give us more of these great stories, greatly told. Thank you!
