Were off and Running!!!!! The Seabiscuit Heritage Foundation invites you to visit Ridgewood Ranch home of The Legendary Seabiscuit. With a heart-felt “Thank You” to Laura Hillenbrand, Ridgewood now welcomes guests for its fourth season! Tour the Historic grounds, including the home of Charles and Marcela Howard, walk the breezeway of the 22 stall mare barn, Seabiscuit's Stallion Barn which Charles Howard had constructed for his beloved horse’s well earned retirement after winning the Santa Anita Handicap in 1940, and much, much more! View the unique home movies of the ranch, filmed by Howard's friend "Doc"Babcock, from his personal collection, including behind the scenes footage filmed at Santa Anita Park circa 1938-1940. We are happy that we now have living descendants of Seabiscuit, grazing happily in the shade, under the same grand old oak trees their famous great-great-great- grandfather grazed so many years ago. You will hear what life was like on the ranch in an era long past and experience a walk back through time. The Legend lives on at Ridgewood Ranch! For tour information visit or email

Congratulations to Laura Hillenbrand on writing an absolutely fabulous book. I am 58 years old, and I would have to rate this as my all time faborite book. I am curious as to how long it took her to write "Seabiscuit". The research alone must have taken years. I look forward to reading her next book which I hope will be about another champion animal. The movie "Seabiscuit" was also wonderful. I have seen it now at least 9 times.

I watched the movie for the second time this weekend and loved it and your story all over again. I hope that you'll find another equine hero to write about soon...maybe Barbaro or perhaps Smarty Jones? I own a cousin to Seabiscuit and truly, they are full of mischief and of heart. Thank you for your wonderful book.

I just finished your book on Seabiscuit and I enjoyed it tremendously. You really know how to capture the essence of the characters--both human and equine.
I'd like to know about other books you have written

I am nearly finished the book - it is slipping through my concentration so fast as it is so very good. Thank you for giving me another view of the world my parents grew up in. Now I'll rent the movie!
I wonder if you have every considered doing a like book on Northern Dancer?
Thank you once again.
